Tips on Moving

So you have sold your house and now you have to set your thoughts on how you are going to move all your belongings.

Here are some useful tips and information to consider when getting ready to move.

Before the Move

1. Sell or remove any items which you do not want to bring to your new house with you.

2. Get at least 3 quotes from different removal companies, and ask them to provide you with references of customers so you can contact them to ensure the company offers a good service.

3. Check with your insurance company if they will provide insurance for the move, or if your removal company will provide insurance.

4. Contact Electricity, Water, Telephone Providers and let them know the date of your move, and ask them to send you a bill for any amounts due and get them updated to the date of your move.

5. Contact the postal carrier and let them know the date of your move and set-up a redirect mail service to new your property.

The Day of the Move

1. If possible get someone else to look after the kids or the pets as you will have a lot to do.

2. Colour code each box to each room if you are packing yourself, this way you will know what each box contains.

3. Gather up all the keys to your house so you can give them to your Realtor or estate agent.

4. It is nice to prepare a fact file on your house for the person who has bought your property.

5. Store all important documents in a safe place i.e passports, and bring them with you personally when you move.

6. If you use a carrier make sure to give them directions to your new house.

7. When the property is empty, check all doors and windows to ensure they are locked and turn of the gas, water and electric at the mains.

And finally say goodbye to your house and neighbors.
